I've been dancing since i was three but taking ballet off and on i'm 16 and have been taking ballet for the past three years since i moved. I have been working extremely hard at making my ankles stronger by working on different exercises everyday i have good balance but want to be able to hold passe longer... Anything to help with balance? do i need more core strength? i'm willing to work my butt off to be on pointe and i have dedication.

  1. Talk to your dance instructor and see if he or she thinks that you are strong enough to go on pointe. It all depends on your body.

  2. Yeah, ab muscles are a biggie when you're on pointe.  Without them, you totally lose your balance and can't turn, balance, anything (which defeats the purpose of being on pointe).  Work on your stomach muscles and wait a bit longer - I went on pointe when I was 9 but I had almost four years of really INTENSIVE and extremely GOOD training (the best school except for the ones in the city).  Good luck though!

  3. If you think you are strong enough and think you are ready for pointe shoes, i would ask your teacher about them. S/he knows when it is time to get them. I would also ask her the questions you have stated if s/he says you are not ready. s/he is the best person to ask.

  4. Do sit ups and find out where you can take a pilates class good luck!!!!!!!!

  5. i do not think that it depends on the amount of years you have been taking ballet. it all depends on the strength of your ankles. try some simple exercises to help you get better:

plies tondu left, plies tondu right, again and again.  that would help your turn out a lot especially if you push extras hard on your legs to go left and right. also push your ankles to the max-max, but don't hurt yourself.

i love ballet sososo much. even if you are not on the level of en pointe, buy yourself a pair of pointe shoes. do not do ashapese on them 50million times, hold on to a steady surface very lightly and lift your self up slowly, then slowly place your feet on the ground keeping a perfect turn out the whole time

try this in reg. ballet flats too

    and in all 6 positions!

    good luck!

  6. With balance, try to focus on one object in front of your stare at it. Don't move your eyes all over the place, or you'll lose balance.

To improve your ankles, do releves!!!! Do them all the time, brushing your teeth, drinking water, even mixing a pot of soup! Make sure you do them turned out, or they won't do much for you!

    Good luck!

  7. hi i love dancing its fun. my friend said you need strong ankels. if you have been doing dancing for more than 5yrs than you can go on points but if not then keep dancing!

its good you have been doing exercises keep doing them and then points will began. ps. sometimes your feet may get rally sore after points so becareful!
