Is pokemon Japanese or american? My sister said its American which is really hard to believe.Then again all my friends say it's Japanese...

Japanese. It's owned by Nintendo, which is in Japan.

Its Japanese because its made directly from Japan. It aired first in Japan in 1999 and then, it was translated into English when it was released.
