Is policing of the Internet required for scam sites that install adware, spyware, or malware?

Question

I got caught by the "FinallyFast.com" commercial and, to make a long story short, had to take my compter in to have it cleaned out.

I have notified all my Yahoo groups (15,646 members) and have received numours email that the same thing happened to them. I also got tons of helpful information...so you don't have to post that here.

If you're just asking if its needed, then of course.

But it's not really possible or at the very least practical.  Never mind trying to catch or enforce any fines and such.

The internet is too huge to police per se.  There will always be unscrupulous individuals that will take advantage of any situation.

Have you ever heard the argument pro-gun people use?

"At 3:00am when someone is crawling through my window,I am the Sheriff"?

Not sure how I feel about the gun part,but that is the state of the Internet.

Your on your on,and I don't thank there is much hope of that changing in the near future.

Use a secure browser,a updated operating system,the best anti-virus you can get,and a few on demand scanners for spy ware...Oh yeah either a software  Firewall or hardware router.

Yeah I know I am just telling you what you already know.

I say that all sites should follow a certain code of ethics. The thing is that the webmaster (creator of the site) may have had good intentions in mind, there are people who make bad uses of it. Also, what about sites who have been infected from a user or other sites? They shouldn't be held responsible. As for actually policing the sites, that is practically impossible because a site must follow the rules of the nation the user is in, so having them follow one set of rules is impossible.
