  1. I've played pool with plenty of snooker players, and none of them were very good. If what you were saying was true, then average snooker players would be able to step to a pool table and kick butt, but it simply does not happen.

  2. matt and jay said it perfectly

  3. Think you have it turned around there, pal.

In snooker you have 15 'red' balls that can be shot at at any given time.

In '9' ball there is only one, the lowest numbered.

The same holds true for '7' ball and '6' ball.

And if you really want a challenge... try '10' and 15-ball rotation.

Even in '8' ball there are seven compared to 15 in snooker.

If pool is so easy, then why is it that when the Mosconi Cup takes place snooker is the only matches that team Europe win. If 9-ball and 8-ball are so easy, Europe should take all three events, duh!

And while we're at it, 99% of players "not" from the U.S. prefer '9' ball.

If you think it so easy, as Johnny and a few others have said: "Show up with a box car full of cash - no cheques." But save something to get back home on.

    .

  4. If you ever see me play snooker, then you would absolutely agree this is true! lol

  5. It's not a question of talent.  Anyone can play either, it's a question of how well you do.  With snooker potting a ball does require a little more skill because of the way the pockets are designed.  But with pool, there's a lot more stategy.  Pool in it's various forms is a much more mental game than snooker.  And there are so many different games in pool, each one caters to a different skill set.  In straight pool, you need to be able to peel apart a cluster.  In rotation games, cue control is a must, even 8 ball has it's own uniqueness, because while there are 7 balls to choose to shoot from there are 7 more that are out there to block you.

So essentially the answer to your question is NO, it's just a differerent set of games completely.  It's like trying to compare snooker or pool to carom billiards.  It's just not the same thing, only the fundemental skills are similar.  I wouldn't expect a Hockey player or Speedskater to try their hand at figure skating even though the fundamental concepts are the same, would you?

  6. Comparing the two games is like comparing the NFL to Arena Football. They both use a football but I would hardly consider the latter a fair comparison to the former.

Pool and snooker have the same fundamentals and they both use a table with balls but that's where the similarities end. One uses a smaller table with larger and fewer balls and the other uses a larger table with smaller balls and the strategies to win the respective game differ substantially. Not to mention that the pool table has pointed pockets and the snooker table has rounded pockets. There's a dimension of the table you don't hear much talk about.

But, where they share some common ground is that playing either will benefit you and improve your skills for the other.
