Question:

Is preaching against g**s a hate crime?

Honestly, without bias answers please! If I believe what the Bible says about g**s and I preach about it, is it truly a hate crime? If so, would telling a drug dealer that he/she's a drug dealer and is making the neighborhood a bad place, a hate crime too? Thanks!

  1. Okay. Honesty without bias. As clean as I can give it, but only because you asked. Crime? It doesn't matter if it's a crime. That should not be what governs our behavior toward others. The Bible? Believe what you will. It was written by men, translated across languages, and with words whose meanings have changed over time. What you read is NOT what Paul wrote. g**s? I'm straight. I've met good people and bad people. Some were g*y. Some were not. Most, I don't even know which they were. Go figure. The real question I see, is WHY PREACH? Now that's a worthwhile discussion. Sometimes it helps. Sometimes it hurts. When is it appropriate to express your judgments over the lives of creatures equal to yourself?

  2. no its not! you are teaching the right thing!! keep preaching the bible

  3. The drug dealer and the g**s would like for you to think it is a hate crime.  As all sinners who rebel against God, anything they do is alright in their sight.

For this reason, God gave us His Word so we would know the TRUTH.

God said that man should not lay with man and woman should not lay with woman.  If every person was homosexual, there would be no more babies and humans would eventually become extinct as animals do.

The problem is not hate crimes, but do we believe God or we don't believe God.  I choose to believe God.

Homosexuality is wrong and God didn't put in homo genes in man.  Sin is the cause of homosexuality.  God says don't do it.

Drug dealing is making money off the misery of other people.  God says don't do it.

No - preaching against g**s or any other sin is not a hate crime.

No, you should not consider the other guys right to call you a freak a hate crime.  In the USA, we have freedom of speech.

It is true that words hurt many people, but the truth is if you know the Lord, then words cannot hurt you.  Do you not remember the word of God, "If Christ be for you, who can be against you."  I believe this is the reason the following quote was made:  "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me."  Perfect love casts out fear, because fear has torment.   Christ is perfect love so with Christ in me, how can words hurt me.  I know who I am in Christ and that is all I need to know.

  4. ... I was brought up a Christian and then became atheist because of how horrid it all is. Being g*y is a genetic thing, it is not a choice, so persecuting ordinary people through no fault of their own is just ridiculous. People like you need to wake up into the real world. A multicultural, colourful world. Do you not have anything better to do than preach against people's genetics?? I hope (if you ever find someone who wants to have children with you) that your children are g*y. Some of the nicest people I know are not heterosexual, and they are clearly more intelligent than you, too.

Nobody needs a bible to tell them what's right and wrong, and how to live. That's called morals. My family are all Christian and they brought me up to be open minded. They are nice, accepting people and don't have a problem with homosexuals. Because they live in the real world. And even though I'm atheist, they don't care. Each to their own, believe what you want, just don't force your beliefs on to other people.

EDIT: What about people with disabilities... what about them? That's genetic, just as being g*y is. And what if we are all god's children, regardless of who you were born to be and whether you believe in god or not? That's one parent I would rather not have around to be honest. I'm proud I'm not a part of a narrow minded, prehistoric religion that persecutes good, honest people.

Oh, and not studying has nothing to do with genetics, so your argument is very flawed... I recommend to you a better book to read.

Yes, disabilities aren't always genetic, well done you, but a large number are. And I have many g*y friends who all say it was never a choice, they just knew. And they are good people. I watched a documentary on the "g*y gene" (and how hormones in the uterus could also hold the key) and it appears they are becoming closer and closer to finding a link, as nobody chooses. Once again, I hope your children are g*y, so you can burn them at the stake :o). My last thought of the day is this: wars are caused by narrow minded people like you, who persecute anyone different. Why? Believe in god all you want, but stop preaching about how Christianity is the one religion. There are many out there, and if they all believe in different things then let them. Stop being so narrow minded and ignorant - get out into the world and experience real life :o)

  5. Yes, it is a hate crime.  Christianity has become all about hate.  Where in the New Testament could you POSSIBLY find any statement by Jesus where he said you should hate homosexuals.  You won't because he practiced INCLUSION not EXCLUSION.  Spend more time preaching about men not cheating on their wives. Currently stats indicate that more than half of men will cheat on their wives. The highest rate of cheaters is in the Bible Belt.  Seems to me that adultery would be a more pressing concern than homosexuals who aren't bothering anybody in the first place, while adultery is the  primary cause of divorce which disrupts families.   But, what really frightens me about you is that you believe in the Bible and according to the Bible, incest is rewarded. That makes you disgusting, pretty much.

A drug dealer is dealing in something that harms others and is illegal. If you said to kill or hang all the drug dealers, while many would applaud you, that would constitute a hate crime.

I would add that fools should stop quoting the King James Bible.  Perhaps you are too stupid or don't have cable or satellite, but there have been far more than enough episodes on History channel to show that much of the bible was deliberately mistranslated to support the regime current at the time.

  6. A hate crime means exactly that, a crime of some nature has been committed. IE, if by telling someone they are bad or sinful because they are a sinner in any way harms them or becomes threatening, or harassing, then it would be considered a crime, and because it is aimed toward a specific population it would be a hate crime. Now have you hit, shot, or otherwise caused another crime to happen?

  7. i think so. on both. i think that the g**s should have the same life as us with out people dissing them about this and that. i support g*y right.

  8. As you know, the law is not black and white.  Hate crime can take many forms. Incidents may involve physical assault, damage to property, bullying, harassment, verbal abuse or insults, or offensive graffiti or letters.  So if you make the stretch that what you're doing is considered harassment, verbal abuse or insults, then a good lawyer could probably make the case.  Especially if you prompt someone else to take action.

BTW, don't you have something else better to do.  Why not preach against crime or sexual harassment.  There are plenty of other things that you can do with your passion, why not leave g**s alone, they're not bothering you and most g**s are productive members of society just trying to get along like the rest of us.  Why not pick the second thing that pisses you off and focus on that instead ?

  9. Drugs are proven to be harmful to people. You can't have hate crimes against murderers, either.

Hate crimes are discriminating against a group or race of people who cannot control who they are.

Because homosexuality hasn't been solidly, undeniably PROVEN to be a choice (as you may or may not believe), it's especially unethical to hate or hurt them for something they may not be able to control.

Go ahead and believe what you want, but realize that your belief is your own interpretation that doesn't dominate all else.

edit: To be clearer, I don't think that your preaching your belief is a hate crime, unless you actually hurt a g*y person.

  10. I dont think you'd have any trouble preaching it in a church but you might have to watch your words in the street.

for example you'd be able to say something like 'according to the Bible you're sinners and going to h**l'

while you could run into trouble saying 'you're sinners and going to h**l' on it's own.

You're allowed to quote from a source I think.

It's stupid isn't it? We barely have free speech at all any more.

  11. I don't think it should be if you're just saying that you think what they do is wrong. But if you were saying that they're sub-human and deserve to be executed, etc. then that becomes n**i-esque and I think that kind of hate speech should not be allowed.

  12. A hate crime is a criminal offense committed against a person or property motivated, in whole or in part, by the offender's bias against a racial group, religion, ethnicity, gender, sexual preference, or disability. The offense is considered a hate crime whether or not the offender's perception of the victim as a member or supporter of a protected group is correct."[22]

In the United States federal prosecution is possible for hate crimes committed on the basis of a person's race, color, religion, or nation origin when engaging in a federally protected activity. Measures to add perceived gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, and disability to the list have been proposed, but failed due to conservative opposition.

  13. only an idiot would think so.ignoring the facts doesnt change the facts either.

homosexuality according to GOD is an abomination in his sight, plain and simple no excuses or exceptions.

you are free to choose to live according to GODS standards and rules or not .either way there are rewards and punishment.choose.

  14. i dont think preaching against g**s - who have actually done nothing wrong - and preaching against drug dealers - who are criminals is the same thing.

and no i dont think its a hate crime to preach against something anyway - cuz thats ur opinion and ur not actually committing a crime. i personally think though that preaching against g**s is ridiculous in the first place - they arent harming you or anyone else. live and let live.

  15. Yes it would be, because everyone has a freedom of opinion.

    I, myself, am an atheist.

Would you like it if i started condemning your beliefs because according to me they make no sense?

I consider bad and good relative terms as they depend on a person's perspective. So preaching or trying to preach about anything against another person's beliefs would be a hate crime.

It would be better if you kept your opinions to yourself.:)

  16. No, it's not a hate crime.  A hate crime is where an actual crime has been committed and it is determined that it was wholly or partially motivated by the race, religion, sexual orientation, etc., of the victim...like if you beat someone up because they're g*y or black, or vandalize a temple because the congregation is Jewish.  Preaching is not a crime, so it can't be a hate crime.  However, if you go beyond preaching your opinion of homosexuality to inciting people to actually harm g*y people, then you may have crossed a legal line and there may be some criminal offense like disturbing the peace that you may be guilty of.

As for the genetic thing, it's true there is not *yet* conclusive proof that being g*y is linked to one particular gene or that it is purely genetic at all.  There may never be; I think most scientists believe it's more complex than that, probably combining environmental factors, for example something to do with hormones in the uterus maybe, and a combination of several genes.  It's my understanding that there is some pretty good evidence pointing in the direction of at least some genetic influence on homosexuality.  We may never know the complete explanation of what "causes" homosexuality but that doesn't prove that it is a chosen behavior instead of an inborn orientation.  For me the only proof I need is that most actual g*y people say it is not something they ever chose, but something they just knew about themselves, most from an early age.

  17. why do you have to "preach" about it.  leave it alone.  talk about positive things that will help people become better.

  18. No, I don't think that would really be a hate crime. It would be a very annoying and rude to do. I would hope that if someone believes in the Bible, they are mature enough to stay out of other people's business.

  19. For it to be a Hate Crime there must first be a crime.  Last I checking preaching is not a crime.

  20. In Canada it is. I'm sure some States in the U.S. have adopted that rule. In general though you probably could argue in the U.S. still that you are entitled to Freedom of Speech as well as the Freedom of Religion(if Govt can't endorse religion it also can't impose rules on religious teaching for the most part).

  21. Hate Crime laws are created statutorily.  That means they are trumped by the Constitution, which provides a protection for the freedom of speech.  Bottom line- you can say almost anything to anyone without fear of being charged with a hate crime (even if you are, it won't hold up).  The one caveat here, however, is that if you preach to people that they should do something criminal (like preach that they should attack g**s, etc.) and that action is committed, you could be held criminally liable for that crime, and a hate crime attachment could be made if the criminal action was directed against a protected person or group of persons in the name of intolerance.

  22. No, it is not a hate crime, however the bible says it is a sin.  This is the reason "Chirstians" have a bad name.  More than 75% are way too judgemental. (that is my guess)  A true Christian is taught to love the sinner hate the sin, and WE are ALL sinners, so who are "Christians" to judge?
