  1. Ok so here's the deal : Apparently the people of Edinburgh are too upmarket/snobbish for a primark... no joke, that's what i heard. also apparently the council don't want one because it'll make edinburgh look bad... crazy but apparently true!!!

  3. They lost out on the old top shop premises on Princes Street.

  4. No. They tried to get the M&S store at 91 Princes Street but Top Shop beat them to it.

FASHION giant Topshop has beaten budget clothing chain Primark to take over a top Princes Street site.

The chain is set to move into Marks & Spencer's ladieswear store at 91 Princes Street after signing a lease to start in early 2008. Rival Primark was tipped to open its first Edinburgh store in the building, which has around 100,000sq ft of space over six floors.

But it is understood that the deal fell through at the last minute when agreement could not be reached over a condition of the lease.

Topshop, which already has a store at 30-31 Princes Street, is set to open its new premises in summer 2008.

However, the Arcadia Group, of which Topshop is part, has only agreed to lease three floors of the building, whereas Primark were understood to be looking at all six.
