  1. Very fun! They ask questions like, why is the sky blue, not what are you doing.

  2. You need to know about the age child with whom you wish to work.  In your coursework, you will study child development to learn how students act intellectually, emotionally, physically and socially.  The more you know about them, the more you will enjoy working with them.

As for skills, you  will develop those as you go through a program of study.  Your knowledge base about what is appropriate to teach at this level will also grow rapidly.   If you wish to find out whether you would like working with this child, you could observe at a public school or work with kids at a church school.  I did that and was amazed at how delightful these children were.  And I had a degree in history with a high school teaching certificate.

So I went back to school and got a masters in early childhood education.   I love the younger children because you have more freedom to set up the curriculum and the activities using your creativity and imagination.  You have performance standards to meet but you don't have to do what everyone else is doing.

The children also love the teacher for the most part.  They want to please the teacher, so you get lots of  positive feedback.

Hope this helps you think about this decision. You should probably also talk to several primary teachers in your area or city.  Get as much concrete information as you can.  And I hope you like teaching the younger children!
