  1. There are good private schools (e.g., Duke, Harvard, Stanford, Chicago) and there are bad private schools (e.g., Liberty, Bob Jones, Seton Hall, St Johns).

There are good public schools (e.g, Berkeley, GA Tech, Virginia, Michigan) and there are baf public schools (e.g., Coppin State, Slippery Rock, San Diego State).

You can find college rankings at US News.  The link is below:

  2. To be entirely honest, if you apply yourself in public school you have just as good of chances getting into colleges as you would if you stayed in private school.

And speaking from experience being in college: Once you get here, no one even gives a rats @ss where you came from. Private school, public school it does not even matter in the slightest, everyone is in the same position and that is at square zero.

And about your average 99.6...I am unsure what that means...I'm only used to averages based on a 4.0 scale...so I'm going to assume that is around a 3.8/3.9.

Also, college don't care what school you come from, they care about the classes you take. If you go to private school and take classes like drama, art, gym, etc they won't think too highly of that. If you are from a public school and take AP classes, you are at about the level as any private school kid who takes AP classes as well.

Private vs. public is a fairly useless comparison when it comes to highschool and college.

The only thing that I think would hurt you would actually be your homeschooled high school education. Why? Because (and catch me if I'm wrong), in a home-schooled setting you do not have the opportunities for AP and honors classes that you would get at a private or public school. AP and honors and academic classes (like english, math, etc) are what colleges LOOK for. I don't know what kind of homeschooling program you are doing, but if it is a just some sort of packet program...I don't think that is going to take you very far (my husband graduated high school through a homeschooled packet program and the colleges he applied at last year kinda snubbed him for not having the standard classroom education. He was never accepted to any colleges, not even state ones, and he had a B average).

My advice would be to go to a public highschool where you have the chances to really develop your grades. Having a 99.6 average doesn't mean anything if all your classes were electives and "fun" classes  (gym, art, health, french, etc). If anything, attend public school for 3 classes (maybe 3 AP or honors classes) and then do the rest of your requirements (like math, basic science, etc) homeschooled. I knew lots of people who did it that way and they are doing just great in college now. That way, you can do the general requirements like your basic math and stuff the easy way to get them done, but still make a good impression on colleges with honors and AP classes.

For being a lawyer and getting into a great law school, AP classes will be your best friend. Its not just good enough to take the AP test, they want to see your GRADES for those classes.
