Question:

Is product placement illegal?

I thought there were laws against it now. Think of Big Brother...every can of juice and box of food has the label covered.

Yet, when you look at programmes like Britain's Next Top Model you see make-up brands and hair products galore. How is this different?!

Lets say, for example, I had a product or a brand and wanted it featured in Corrie. (ie a poster on a wall or something). Would I be allowed? Is it only PAID product placement that's illegal? ie if you could convince a pogramme to use your brand for free, would that be a legal loophole?

If anyone has marketing experience, please advise! Thanks.

  1. When they're not paid for, product labels get covered because the producers do not want to promote a product that did not pay.

Paid product placement is absolutely legal and is done quite regularly on almost all television shows.

If you could convince a program to use your Brand for free. Then you would be getting free advertisement, which would be great! Also not against the law.

  2. Product placement is legal its subliminal advertising that’s not.

Without the advertising money some films would never be made.

Just a few that spring to mind.

In Alli McBeal at the meetings they all sit on Herman Miller chairs and write with Mont Blanc pens.

James bond stopped driving the quintessential British Aston in favour of a certain German manufacturer! I’m so pleased he returned the thoroughbred Aston.

Bond still wears the Omega though!

It happens a lot in sport as well.

In American football the boot manufacturers’ logo is applied outside the tapping with a felt pen.

Did you ever notice left handed snooker players wear a watch on their right wrist?

  3. Hi there, Product Placement is not illegal, Many shows receive a fee for using or naming products in there show. However if the manufacturers are not willing to pay a placement fee they wont show it.

If a show has not been paid to show a brand or product then they cover up the brand because most of them are registered trade marks and need the permission of the trademark owner to display them.

One I can think of was only fools and horse (time on our hands) the makers where paid by Nescafe and Bisto to mention their products during a scetch.

The television complaints commission will take action if a program spends all its time advertising products.

  4. No its very much legal. That's how brands get noticed, and it costs alot of money. e.g. product placement in a film costs hundreds of thousands. but product placement in a store, e.g. good shelf space costs alot less but is still expensive

  5. Dear:in this case u should be careful about the advertising envelop paper that u are going advertised on wall or else where, should b make up of that things that should not creat any dirty or prove as a poision for the enviornment and its expire period should be shorts.

Dont use such inks on that paper that is make up of any chamical that is harmful for the enviornment.

second is that it is not illegal to advertised the products on such a places because if u dont advertised on such a places who the people beaware about u products so it is necessary to advertised on such a places.
