I ask this because I've heard and seen a lot of people complain about how RAW, Smackdown and the WWE as a whole focus more on promo's in a 2 hour show than the actual wrestling, so what do you think?

BQ: Please answer this question as well, as it wasn't shown yesterday when I posted it:

  1. In the words of Stone Cold. "Gimme a h**l yeah" Wrestling hasn't been about wrestling for the past 7 plus years. It's far to much filler stuff. It's more like a soap opera with big men and scantily clad women. The WWE brand is the far worst out of any other promotion when it comes to much talk very lil action. That's why I hate wrestling soooooooo much now. I've been a fan for about 25 years.

When I think about the glory days of World Class Wrestling, AWA, The original NWA and early WCW. The current state of wrestling is just so not about actually in the ring westling and pretty lame. I thought TNA would be different but I see they are traveling the road of ridiculous storylines, characters and far too much talking. The Kurt Angle, Aj Styles storyline did it for me. I had to turn them off. Anyway I don't see the future of wrestling getting any better. The new age fan has been spoiled and thinks this product is really good. Therefore Vince McMahon the face of wrestling will not change the direction of it.

    How sad.

  2. Since Vince bought the company from his dad he decided to make it more about the entertainment than wrestling. Wresting in the past, early 80's and back, used to be wrestling with very little entertainment. Since the mid 80's that has shifted, now it is more entertainment with less wrestling.

  3. IN THE WWE YES

  4. As much as people hate to admit this, the WWE is the face of American professional wrestling. That being said, I agree wholly that the wrestling has taken a back seat to the theatrics. For years there was a defined balance of wrestling and drama in the 'E, but the post-Attitude era has shifted that balance in favor of the entertainment. This is not to say that the wrestling is no longer important, but rather that the emphasis is now on scripted melodrama than epic matches.

Contrary to popular belief, the WWE does have many very good professional wrestlers but the changing times have made them take a less prominent role than would have been the case 10 or 15 years ago (I think Jamie Noble, Finlay, and Matt Hardy are the best examples of those who have been limited by the inability to "get over" as individual personalities, but are nonetheless good wrestlers).

  5. WWE is a prime example of this being fact.

Professional Wrestling has been overshadowed by "entertainment" for years already, even during the times of Hulk Hogan. It gets obnoxious that Professional Wrestling promotions have to have stupid soap operas and ridiculous parodic and stereotypical characters in order to get on television in any way. I guess people just being themselves was never popular with the generic viewer (as exhibited best by guys like Dean Malenko). "Characters" can be interesting, but Professional Wrestling matches should always be the main focus in the end.

  6. yes

  7. No.

  8. Definitely, but it has been that way for a while.  Look at what people remember about the Attitude era.  It's not the matches; it's the promos and characters.  The only difference now is that the promos suck in a lot of people's opinions, so they'd rather have more wrestling.

Most people don't complain about the amount of TNA promos (myself included), because they are actually entertaining and not kid oriented.

Eventually that is going to be a problem in the future.  Ten or so years from now, a lot of WWE fans are going to grow up and either stop watching wrestling entirely or move to TNA as it is more adult themed.  WWE needs to be very careful in it's move to PG and hope they don't become the Barney of wrestling.
