Is prolonged exposure to oil fumes from an engine dangerous?

A friend of mine is a truck driver, and his boss has him driving a truck that has a bad engine. The result is that all the oil fumes come right into the cab. Is this dangerous to his health, and is this a valid reason to collect unemployment.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, not my intention.

  1. YES! Not a stupid question. The fumes are a carcinogen. (cancer) And they are not good for the respiratory system.

  2. sure anything like that is

  3. If the oil fumes are getting in then carbon monoxide can also get in.  Its a safety issue and is grounds to refuse to drive.  The law protects a driver from termination for refusing to drive an unsafe vehicle.  They can't fire him, demote him, assign him hours or duties that will entice hime to quit and they can't transfer him to a job that will entice him to quit (constructive discharge.)

  4. In small amounts, the liver and kidneys can clean the toxin from the body...it's large amounts at once that over load your system and cause renal failure. That's when you organs start shutting down and you die.

Prolonged exposure to fumes will kill brain cells and be a cause of strokes.
