A black pawn is on c2, the black king is on b2, and a black rook is on f1, whereas the white king is on c6, and a white rook is on g4. Black to move. Is there a computer program that can analyze this situation?

  1. You may have given the wrong position - Black can promote the pawn immediately in the position that you give, so c1=Q wins easily.

If you intended that Black be moving in the other direction, then the position is drawn with best play by both sides.  White's King is blocking the Queening square and it's impossible for Black to break the blockade.  This has been known long before the age of computers.  There is no way to prevent White from setting up the Philidor position.

  2. Alfie,

I would have to assume that you are setting up this situation with Black facing upward.  Otherwise the simple answer would be "of course be yes".

But in any chess question it is traditional to face white upward (from the bottom of the board).  The problem should be set up with black's pawn at f7, black's king at g7, and the rook at c8.  The white pieces should be set up facing the other way also.
