  1. It is a popular song, but not a folk song.  It was written by Eric Bogle in the last 30 or so years.

    Waltzing Matilda probably counts as a folk song, although it was written by AB "Banjo" Patterson.  I suppose it depends on what you mean by folk song.


  2. It gives me goosbumps when I hear it and had the pleasure of seeing Eric Bogle play it live once great song along with "I was only  Nineteen." by Redgum.

  3. Some consider it to be our national anthem ....although it is not. The original version was written by the great Australian poet Banjo Patterson.

    there are a lot of singers that released it and its good to hear the different versions.this one is by john Williamson,a wonderful  Australian folk singer
