Question:

Is "Gillian" a pretty name?

I was wondering your opinion.

It's pronounced with a J but I think the spelling with a G is more appropriate.

Down-bearded youth is how it's described which is sorta strange...but I've also heard that it means she's nice, smart, sophisticated...

The Gillian I know is a spontaneous sweetheart who is very social and fun. She's bright and she is nice but also can get to be stubborn and sarcastic..not a morning person, either.

What's YOUR opinion of the name Gillian?

1. Would you rather spell it with a J or a G?

2. What are 3 words that would describe the Gillian you that comes to mind, or that you know?

3. What does it mean?

Thanks soo much!!!!!!!! XO

ps i'm not pregnant at all. i'm a teen.

  1. i found this meaning for Jillian: girl, sweetheart, youthful

I like it spelled with a J, so people don't mistake it for Gill-e-an. the hard G sound.

The Jillian i know is an adorable 4 year old, who is smart, friendly, independent, pretty, blonde, and a little serious.

  2. With a J looks better and is easier for anyone to pronounce. Jillian I would say brings to mind fun, good and clean.

  3. I don't really like the name Gillian, or even Jillian lol.  But if I had to use it, I'd go with G too.  It looks better to me than the J spelling does.

Crazy, insane and outspoken come to mind when I hear the name, but that's only because the only Gillian I know is pretty much that, except not in a good way lol.  She was in a class of mine last year and pretty much destroyed it.

I guess it means "youthful" which is actually a really nice meaning.  Unfortunately because of the Gillian I know though, I'd never use it on my own kid lol.

  4. It's a nice name but I hate when it is spelled with a G. Jillian looks better. Plus Jill is an easier nickname than Gill which people would pronounce as gil (like what a fish has to breathe with)

  5. Here is a meaning

    http://jivebabynames.com/Gillian_babynam...

I like the spellings both ways... However you might want to consider if you will call her a Jill... Cause Gill on paper looks much different than Jill. I never knew a Gillian myself, but i did know a Jill from school and she was a popular, friendly girl.

  6. Jillian cuz people could make fun and call her gilligan

  7. yes spelled with a j

  9. with a J. Friendly,Popular, outgoing (cheerleader type)

  10. I like Gillian ALOT!

I think of someone spontaneous, cute and quirky.

  11. Personally I think it's a horrendous name and am horrifed that it seems to be making a comeback, ugh!!!

It looks ugly whether you spell it with a J or G and makes me think of women in their forties that are a bit dimwitted.

Sorry if you like the name, but you did ask for opinions

  12. I like it.

    1. J

    2. like my cousin Jillian =)

  13. Heh, there was a girl in my 5th grade class named Gillian with a G. We used to joke around with her, call her "Gilligan" and say that she couldn't spell her name right.

    Man, we were idiots.
