  1. The solo is the only part that is NOT a joke.

  2. Becaues A bird is free and soars, what a great life, get it no joke!

  3. It's a great song by one of the best American bands of all time: Lynyrd Skynyrd.

The origin of it being shouted out for live goes back to a live album released by Skynyrd in 1976, One More from the Road, which documented a live show, where the  band had held it for the encore. Since it was the band's signature song, (and just overall bitchin') the fans started calling for it before the show ended. This was included on the live album release, and people began to copy this as a joke, which eventually took on a mind of its own.

  4. the reason "Free Bird" is screamed at concerts is because they want to hear it. Free Bird is arguably the most popular rock song of all time, with fantastic vocals, rockin' guitar solos, and powerful lyrics.

as it for being a joke, absolutely not. if you want to hear Free Bird in it's entirety, go to www.pandora.com and type in "Free Bird" in the search box, and it will play for you.. or even do a search for it on youtube.. if you can find the Asbury Park performance of Free Bird you will completely understand why everyone shouts "FREE BIRD!!" a every concert.

  5. Although a litle overplayed, Freebird was one of the best songs that came out of the 70's. Lynyrd Skynyrd was and still is one of the best Southern Rock bands. Why people yell for it is because it is a classic and an excellent song played live.

  6. The myth is that people yell it at concerts as a nice way of saying that the band sucks. So yeah, in its own way, it really is a joke.

  7. i dont know why people scream it at concerts. probably because they are ignorant and havent actually listened to it, but that song is a classic. it is an awesome song with a kick *** solo. it is an awesome song, hence the reason there arent many like it...its irriplaceable. dont know what else to say about it...it will rock on for eternity...

  8. Freebird is a ridiculously long song (something over 12 minutes full-length, I think) and has a guitar solo featuring four separate lead guitarists. Look it up on YouTube, you'll probably find the Guitar Hero II version (it's the very last song you play to beat the game).

  9. The song itself is a joke, but it't always funny when someone screams "Freebird" at a death metal band or a school marching band or a band that sucks too badly to get a set longer than ten minutes.

But the song is awesome. Overrated, but awesome nonetheless.

  10. Free Bird is not a joke song...its still one of the most beloved of rock songs, one that stands the test of time both in musicality and emotionality (thank you Tropic Thunder...and kudos to anyone who gets that)...

  11. it's really a beautiful song with a kick *** guitar solo. but it's been so overplayed on the airwaves it's become a joke...as has stairway to heaven...which is also a beautiful song with a kick *** guitar solo. i don't think either of those songs can be diminished by the jokes.they are classics that will live on forever.
