Is "thank you" a proper greeting?

I am not rude and it does not bother me to say "your welcome"

I am a person and if someone does not want to talk, why even say anything? It feels rude that people cant say a proper greeting. I am a person to who has feelings, emotions, and some form of dignity please treat me that way.

  1. Thank you is not a proper greeting. Good day, afternoon, etc. is.

  2. "Thank you" isn't a greeting.

  3. NO! OK- but will treat you same way as you treat me.

  4. Is this person from another culture with English as a second language.  If so a possible error on their part could be the problem.  Thank you is a start in the right direction towards being nice or possibly they could be mentally challenged.  I would take it well and smile.  I have traveled to many countries and thankfully many of them try to speak English or German too me.  I am grateful to get a hello or a thank you!  In its self that is respect, they are trying to communicate with me in my language.

  5. Why would you greet with a thank you? Do you mean like someone opening the door for you or something?

Usually I greet with a "Hello, nice to meet you" kind of thing.

  6. Thank you is used when someone gives you,a compliment or a present !!  A greeting would be Hi or Hello, not Thank you.

  7. Yes i agree with u one should be acknowledging a greeting not just go past But thank u is not a greeting
