Question:

Is race real?

Do you actually believe that there is such a thing as race, or do you think it is just a human invention, psychological, giving different names to different parts of the world and different names to different people who look different because their bodies have adapted to these various different places and they have built habits and traditions up out of that. I find it very hard to believe in race as being an actuality outside of our minds; aren't we all the same? Isn't discrimination totally absurd (well, it's absurd anyway...) if this is the case? What do you think?

  1. To me, humans are categorical creatures, for better or worse. So, race is real in the sense that it's used to describe a member of the human.....well, race. We like to be able to separate (whether for distinction or otherwise) one idea/person/animal etc. from another.

Take for example, the deer. There's different variations of deer. But, if someone says "White-tailed deer" then one has a better idea in their mind's-eye.

And yes, you are correct in thinking that we're all part of one big genus and species. But, the sad part is, you've already reached a point that it seems many don't get to.......instead of trying to better things as a species, things have to to be done for the betterment of one's own race. Humans are, it seems,  naturally inclined to be hypocritical, so once again the never ending mystery of humans continue, regardless.

Good luck! I hope this helped!

  2. it is just a human invention, psychological, giving different names to different parts of the world and different names to different people who look different because their bodies have adapted to these various different places and they have built habits and traditions up out of that.

I agree with that statement. :)  We all have our wonderful adaptations :)

  3. Race just like anything else is just a way to identify and group people. I undestand the concept of it and accept it, but if I think about it I don't believe it is real. If anything color is real. I am brown based on the amount of sunlight that hits me. If there is no sunlight, there is no color. If there is no color there is no race.

  4. from a genetics stand point yes race is real. in the same way their are different breads of dog. using genectic markers (microsatillites and minisatelites) we can generate a genetic fingureprint that will tell us what race or racical group a person belongs to, all based on their DNA. it doesn't get more real then that

did you know that birds are classed into different species based on their colours!! imagine if we did that with humans

race is real, to be 100% sure take a look at a picture of a black men, then look at a pic of a white man, see a difference

  5. not really I don't see any difference in people but in individuals

race has nothing to do with that
