  1. its more of a macho thing i think.  raw eggs are not proven any better than cooked.

eggnog has enough alochol to generally kill anything that would hurt you.

if you still for some reason have a thing for raw eggs, many supermarkets have pasturized eggs now.

I personally eat raw eggs fairly regularly in my family's caesar salad, and have never gotten sick from it... of course there is plenty of lemon juice and salt and anchoives involved with that,  so much so that i have had friends keel over after trying it... doubt any standard germs would survive

  2. it's pretty fattening

what you are describing is not eggnog though...eating/drinking raw eggs can be very healthy but you have to watch out for salmonella

  3. Raw eggs and eggnog are two different things.

People eat raw foods all the time. Some would argue they're better for you because they have not lost any nutrients to cooking. However, there is a greater risk of bacterial infection on old and improperly stored food. If you eat ANY raw food, it should be as fresh as possible.

For young children, the elderly, and anyone with a compromised immune system, raw foods should be avoided.

  4. its very fattening

prob trying to pack on the pounds

  5. Raw eggs and raw eggnog are great... What you described is not raw eggnog though...

Here's a recipe for raw eggnog:

    4 raw eggs

    1 cup raw milk

    1 cup raw cream

    1/4 cup raw unheated honey

    fresh ground nutmeg to taste

  6. Raw eggs aren't bad for you, there's just a risk of Salmonella. The CDC and all sorts of other groups say "never never", but the risk isn't huge, especially if you're a healthy adult.

The main problem is there's no way to know. No amount of inspection or disinfection will prevent certain types of Salmonella from getting inside eggs. You either cook it or you risk it.
