Is it bad for your eyes to read in a moving vehicle (car, train, bus, etc...) than in a stationary position (sitting on a couch, etc....) and risk spoiling your eyesight. If it is possible source links would be greatly appreciated, also I wear glasses and have the risk for glaucoma genetically.

  1. Nope. The lack of proper lighting in a car (if you don't use reading lights) can cause eye strain, but eye strain DOES NOT harm your vision in ANY way- it is a temporary condition that goes away once you stop engaging in the stressful visual activity.

You can safely read outside, inside, in light or dark, on a plane, in the car, train, ect- anywhere you don't need to use your vision for something else.

  2. There's no risk of spoiling your eyesight.

How much extra fatigue there is because the irregular movement is making the target book jerk will vary with the mode (and, for cars and buses, the quaity of the road!)

Trains should be smooth, and buses less bumpy than cars.

Periodically checking a map in car is no problem, but I'd probably not want to read a novel.

At least not on the roads round here: on a motorway/freeway it would be a different matter!

  3. No, but it might make you feel nauseous, as the sensation of motion you receive from your eyes doesn't match what you feel from your inner ears.
