Question:

Is reading comprehension still a required subject in school?

or has that passed away? What I mean is the old fashioned kind where a student was required to read a paragraph and summarize, in their own words, what the subject of the paragraph was.

I was just wondering due to the vast numbers of answers I see where it is obvious that the answerer either did not bother to read the question or is simply incapable of comprehending more than a dozen or fewer words at a time.

  1. The culprit: vocabulary. The clutter of big, difficult words and small, difficult words.

Most people can read and understand "The cat went up the hill." When I say "the feline withdrew brisky into the caverns", some may have problems understanding what the words mean.

Only in the age of LOLs and "r u srsly?".

  2. Don't worry about the comprehension test. It's not too hard. I'm sure that when you go back to school and take it, you will pass with flying colors!

    Hope this helps,

Just kidding! Lol. I know exactly what you mean! I read answers all the time, and it's obvious that the people answering either didn't read the question, or can't seem to grasp the relevant points in the questions. When I was in Grade 10, I did have to take a test. I'm assuming that it is still in place.
