Is real estate business pretty good?

Question

I wanted to go back to school for what i still dont know-i dont want to be long in school due to me having a 3 year old and a baby on the way. My husband is wanting to get into the real estate business-buying old homes/making them up and reselling-i dont know if i should go with it. Sounds like good money, i know its hard work. but i just dont know where to start. what are the ups and downs of it? and if you do work in that business do you really recommend it? You can make really good money BUT "if and the only if" you have extra money that you do not need. Find the worst house in the best area, fix it and try to sell it. This is not a good time as the real estate is going down within the coming 6 months. Houses will be at the lowest in March, 2009.

Again if you have extra money that you Do not need and can wait until you sell the house.

I wouldnt do it right now, houses are sitting on the market for months and months and the offers right now are low so you could loose money or worse end up having to pay a mortgage on a house that just wont sell.

it can be good money, if you can sell! but in this market, even if you can sell (are a good salesman), there is no gaurantee, excellent realtors are struggling.  this probably isnt a good time to get into real estate.

Real estate has always been good for a long term.  The thing is that you can't start as a realtor without experience without working for a realtor first.  If you want to be a successful realtor, you have to have experience. (Referrals)  The market is another thing.  Yes, it was good for realtors a few years ago when they were selling high priced homes and making a good commission.  Now it is not a bad time either because everyone that I know is either selling or buying a house.  They need realtors to do this.  I found out a good website to do my research about the market.  Do your research online.  It is all about Housing market news.  www.housemoneyvalue.com unlike specific left or right websites, this website does not take sides.  It is news that is from every possible website combined into one.  Hope this helps, and good luck to you and your family.
