  1. Yes--- but you either need to be with the government-- or PAY one of several private Satellite Companies for the images.

  3. Real time satellite imagery is available only to the military and intelligence services, and has many severe limitations caused by the orbits of available satellites. The reality is much more complicated (and expensive) than you see on TV, and is not available to the public.

  4. Real-time satellite imagery is possible, but the show 24 exaggerates and simplifies the images beyond what is actually realizable in practice.  In other words, there is a lot of information that can be obtained from satellites, but it's not simple, easy-to-interperet pictures that make instant sense to a television audience.
