Is religon more important than happiness?

  1. That's a rather broad question, because happiness is a transient thing.

    You can choose to not be religious--and say, defy the moral code of a religion.  You're happy for a while because you're enjoying your freedom.  But then, ignoring that code has caused a problem--hurt somebody else, landed you in trouble.  Now you're unhappy.

    Or, you give up something you want because it goes against the belief system.  Ex. You don't marry outside your faith.  You're unhappy because you're giving something up.  However, in the long run, you find someone and marry them and find raising kids under one belief system to be a blessing.  Now you're happy.

    So, you see, religion and happiness are not mutually exclusive, as your question implies.
