Question:

Is restaurant-grade wine better quality?

I know some wineries strictly sell some wines or reserves to restaurants or certain vendors (and these tell-tale bottles lack a barcode). Does this mean they are better than the stuff you can buy at a grocery store?

  1. not at all just go to local liquer place and you will find amazing wines some very cheap and great and some more expensive

  2. 999 times out of a 1000 (give or take), its the exact same wines.  As someone who has sold to restaurants, wine shops, and supermarkets for a very long time, everythings the same.  Some wines are sold exclusively to higher end restaurants and occassionally, a winery might only make 1000 or less bottles which get parcelled out to, again, higher end restaurant.   And, some of the larger winery do make restaurant exclusive labels, but in general, that Mondavi or Ecco Domani on the list is same as you see in supermarket.  Hope this helps.

  3. I haven't seen that practice at all. The wines on most if not all restaurant's wine list are the same as you would buy in your local wine shop.

I do know that in Italy, there are many small restaurante's that produce there own wine and do not distribute outside there own community.

These are some of the best wines produced and should be given a try if you get the chance to travel Italy.

  4. No way - all depends on your own personal taste...
