  1. Riesling and Chardonnay are two different varieties of white wine.

  2. They are two different wines made from two different kinds of grapes.  Chardonnay wines are derived from the Chardonnay grape.  Although the grape is associated with the Burgundy  region of France, other countries on different continents produce white wines from the Chardonnay grape.  Californian Chardonnay wines often are excellent.  Chardonnay wines might not taste exactly the same from country to country.

Riesling wines come from the Riesling grape.  They are associated with the Moselle/Rhine region of Germany, where they might have originated.  Other countries can grow Riesling grapes and make Riesling wines out of them.  However, the flavour of the wine would be influenced by the specific growing conditions under which the grapes were cultivated, as wis the case with the Chardonnay wines.

  3. 2 different wines, they are named for the grapes and have very distinct flavors.  Riesling is very sweet and fruity, chardonnay is slightly drier with an oak undertone due to aging in oak barrels.

  4. They are both white wines, but the difference is the variety.  Macintosh vs. Red and Delicious apple.  They are both apples, but have different characteristics.

  5. They are wines made from two differnt grapes - like lemons and limes are two different citrus fruits.

BTW- not all Chardonnays are oaky...not all Rieslings are sweet...

  6. No they are different. Chardonnay is very dry, and oakey. Riesling is some-what sweet.
