I know there all kinds of crazy copyright laws and all kinds of crazy exceptions. All I want to know is, is ripping DVD's to a hard drive legal? I would think it is, as long as you're not burning them to DVD's and selling them, or anything. I just want a few on my HD. Thanks.

  1. you are absolutely right. you can rip them onto your hard drive.  You can even make a copy for your own use. It is illegal to make copies and sell them or give them away. And you can not copy disks or rip them onto your hard drive if you didn't pay forthem .

  2. The DMCA is a USA construct, some countries have similar laws, and because DVDs are encrypted you have to decrypt them to copy them. Now if you hooked your DVD player to a VCR and copied the DVD this is not the same or a violation - the DVD is decrypted by the DVD player (the manufacturer bought the rights to the decryption key) and you are copying onto a VCR tape and the video is now unencrypted. This is the way people copy iTunes encrypted music to MP3 - they copy the analog unencrypted audio stream and convert it back to digital. Needless to say that for a movie, this means playing the whole movie to copy it.

Moyea DVD Ripper is powerful but easy DVD ripping software that can easily rip DVD to AVI, MPEG, DIVX, 3GP, 3G2, WMV, WMA, MOV, MP3, MPG and so on. With just a few simple steps, you can get the videos as you want. It also can help you custom the video you want. You can crop the unwanted black borders, trim the DVD to the just phase and adjust the brightness, contrast and audio volume. The most attractive advantage is that it supports batch conversion, also convert files you selected to only one file. You can convert tons of video files at one time, and there is a setting for closing computer automatically after the conversion. What I like best is that it divides dvd into different chapters, so I can rip my I favorite ones.

I’ve being using Moyea DVD Ripper, which rips quickly and has excellent quality. The output formats are comprehensive, including almost all video and audio formats. What I like best is that it divides dvd into different chapters, so I can rip my I favorite ones.

I did download it at this address: http://www.my-video-converter.com/dvd_ri...

    Good luck:)

  3. technically, no....because they dont know that you arent selling them......thats why its a little bit harder to get a dvd ripping program......ive done some research on this, and its easier to get a program from outside the usa because all the ones in the usa get sued, or shut down...............
