  1. "First/second world" is not a description of first/second tier economies. It's a capitalist/socialist description. "Third world" were the leftover countries we struggled to influence. Since communism fell it's not an apt desription, however we still use "third world" to describe the poor countries.

This is a complex question in Romania as the divide between the haves/have-nots and urban/rural makes things compicated. Billions of development euros are flodding in.

Things are further complicated by lingering corruption and backward social attitudes in many people.

  2. Romania is an X-USSR republic. I would say it's a 3rd world country with developing economy. Being a part of EU, helps Romania a lot. Without it, Romania would be 10th world country. It's a nice place to visit. Lots of history over there, Castles and stuff like that. By the way if you ever decide to go there, check http://www.worldcheaper.com for the cheap airline tickets.

  3. well its not in the league of the usa and uk, france, spain etc

a 2nd world country still as in the 'cold war' countires were divided into 3 groups, 1st 2nd 3rd worlds

    (Cold War)

1st world - The USA and its allies

2nd world - Russia and its allies

3rd world - The Neutral countries.

    (Cold War)

1st world - Main Countries - USA,Canada,UK, Austrailia, France, Spain, Germany

2nd world - Main Countries - Russia, China, Japan

3rd world - Main Countries - All countries in Africa, Brazil, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, India

  4. 1st world

  5. I'm afraid Romania is not part of the ex-USSR. It was a part of the Warsaw pact, but never of the USSR.

I think that Romania today is a 2nd world country.

It's is not developed enough to be a 1st world country.

While the EU membership helps a lot, it still can't bring it to the 1st world countries club.

If u take a look at the country's GDP (PPP) it's around 12 200$, but then a country like Brazil that is considered to be a 2nd world country has 11 870$.

Corruption played a major role in Romania's evolution.

    So yes, I guess it's a 2nd world country
