  1. Don't do it on or near a food-prep or eating surface, because lead can settle from the fumes and get into food. Observe standard safety precautions - don't smoke, eat or drink while soldering - and clean up well afterwards. If you're only going to do 2 or 3 bonds, you're probably ok. If it's going to be much more, investigate the lead-fume filters some stained-glass workers use (links to a couple of examples below).

When soldering you should try to avoid being directly over the area you are soldering.  In small quantities you are not going to get much exposure.  I don't think lead is your biggest worry unless you plan on eating it, but there are other chemicals in the smoke that is dangerous if you inhale it every day for years on end.
