What's with all this bad press? It's as though the media is trying to destroy the game from the inside out. Only publishing negative news and aggressive comments from different sides of the fence. Does the daily telegraph have shares in AFL and Union. Even nrl.com is constanly pointing out what wrong in the game. It bores me to tears, the whole game is a goldmine but due to the lack of good management it's falling to pieces. Start by getting rid of Phil Gould, nothing positive has come from his frog face in years. Someone extradite Nasser and as much as I think Gallop is a good bloke we need someone with a reputation for growing money.

  1. are you really that suprised with the bad press? its what the media do!

for EXAMPLE........ you dont here about the 200 qantas planes a day that dont have a problem and land saftly, you only here about the one that has trouble!

media outlets turn mole's in to mountains, more often than not, my advice is dont believe everything you see on tv!

    is rugby league doomed? nah!

1st, history shows me that nrl players over the last 100 years have gotten bigger faster stronger fitter better, i see no reason for that trend not to contiue

2nd,we have great lower level competitions like toyota cup, newcastle rugby league competition and queensland cup, that the nrl can feed off!

what i do think, is the game needs to be expanded in to other areas, like the central coast, i also think there are to many sydney based teams, which is leading to poor crowd numbers!

  2. I love it!!!!    Man.. how gould doesnt get stabbed everytime he is in public astounds me!!!

This whole debacle hurts my ears...all doom and gloom and the pointing of fingers. "it s the nrls fault, its the greedy players" what bullship...  in a competitve market N.R.L holds their own againest all.

There is no better game to watch live and clearly the players are internationally sought after.. how many gayfl guys go overseas on lucrative contracts?? And union.. well we have been "sharing" talent for 100yrs.So i think to coexist is necessary for the survival of both codes.

                         RUGBY LEAGUE WILL NEVER DIE!!

  3. I don't think Rugby League will die but it will become a minow compared to rugby union and AFL. Once the West Sydney team sets up junior participation in AFL will grow dramatically and that will probably sink league quicker than unions poaching.

League needs to either change some rules to make the game more appealing or merge with union and make a hybrid game.

    Go the Swans

  4. seriously i think that both league and union should get together and form a different game, the population of players from both codes is not there to pay for both codes, tv rights in europe and sth. africa will steal all the best players. any comment

  5. The NRL is Doomed, they need to just cancel the league and move onto Aussie Rules or Union. You all know im right so giving me a thumbs down will not save the NRL. LOL

  6. So AFL and Union are getting more publicity at the moment. Every dog has it's bone, and at the moment League isn't luring the media. But League will still attract more Aussie fans than AFL and Union ever will to live games and on TV. I can't remember the last time I watched a game of AFL. It was probably a Swans game, that would have been my only reason for watching it. Go the Blues!

  7. I don't think it's doomed, just a bit on the wayside.  I still enjoy watching the sport, even though theres more negatives than positives at the moment, especially with the SBW saga going on.

It should pick itself up once everything blows over, and then I can get back to watching the games in peace!!! Without interruptions of people skipping the country, or pissing on people in pubs!!!

  8. no its gonna be around forever

  9. Punch Gould in the face about six thousand times. (he can't look any uglier). Rugby League will never be gone mate it is the ultimate sporting event imaginable. everything gets bad press from time to time and SBW is just a spoilt brat who can't handle the fact that his team was sitting at the bottom of the ladder. Kohder is a multi millionare with brains to boot he masterminded the whole thing and then cut all ties with him before he made the decision public and now he's fallen out of the spotlight so they can't personally hand him his supeona. Look at Origin mate league will never die

  10. i agree

  11. rugby league (nrl) is a BUSINESS if a BUSINESS is profitable then everything is sweet if not doomed it is..it is common in business to have competition, yeah so in business you need to look after your product (players) and consumers or the competition will. we as consumers of  this entertainment enjoy the services that being nrl we watch.if not we don't. as for the remarks about Gould(successful coach) or Nasser(doing his job) don't back bite.As for players leaving well that's a personal decision, back to the point its not personal its just BUSINESS.

  12. yes there is to many big girls coming out of new zeeland and having a cry because someone made a few comments.

  13. Rugby league and the NRL are not doomed, are not dying and are not going to be gone. I've had this question asked before and just because SBW and Mark Gasnier move to France and A few papers say something about it dying, doesn't mean its going away. NSW is supporting the NRL and all the subberbs of NSW NRL teams are still supporting the NRL.

  14. I don't think NRL will be doomed. I just think it will go back to it's origins and won't get the publicity that it has now.

It does have to make money and be national. In 1995-6, you could say that they were a national competition although when you have to pay $15-30 for a basic entry and $120 a year just to get a new jersey for that year, in order for a club to pay it's SBW over $500,000 a season?

In business, if a person earning over $200,000 a year was involved in bar fights and other incidents, you'll find it being reported about it too!

The first thing once Superleague and ARL became the NRL they axed which clubs? Adelaide and Western Reds!!

I'm not a big fan of AFL although it has been strong only cause they haven't forgotten the heritage.

Although a big issue is how can a SBW who earns say $500,000 although their No. 1 referee who is under more pressure to get it right would be lucky to go $100,000!!!

  15. Party C loses objectivity when personal comments are made involving people connected to the game! Phil Gould is employed by the Fairfax group and Channel Nine to comment on the game and the people in it. He is entitled to his opinion and you don't have to share it!. Nasser (is/was) employed by SBW as his manager and acts according to SBW's instructions. SBW does not have to take Nasser's advice if he does not want to! It is the Club's that need the money more than the NRL

  16. Doomed - no. Struggling - yes. Like it or not RL will never be the national game.

Go to VIC, SA or WA and you will hear the same bad press about the 'superstars' of their game. The media as a body is excitable in nature which means stories are often misrepresented.

At the moment having 240 minutes of origin football once a one year that actually creates a sense of hype for the general public (of two states) is not sustainable for fans.

My opinion is that the change to full time professionalism made the game boring. Not enough characters in the game and it has become dull and predictable.

  17. The game is not doomed, unfortunately, it is always the way with the media to generally pick on the down side of things (perhaps they should remember Life of Brian) but news is news.

I think you are being a bit harsh on the Telly, they got stuck into the AFL on the Cousens stories and the rugby on Sailor and Henjak.

The best way to get rid of some of this doom and gloom is to get away from these troubles. The Dogs should seek compensation and get on their lives. This happens, all quietens down, media goes elsewhere.

I'm not condoning what SBW has done, just being pragmatic.

  18. Get rid of Nasser, he ain't helpin' things! Lose Chock as well, he's a never was! - Walked out on his own team mid season - the "man" hasn't exactly got a good rep.   As long as some players think they're bigger than the game & then run away when their team is going through tough times, or behave badly in public this sort of rubbish will keep going on.  Clean up the players & you clean up the game.  Gus needs to stick both feet in his mouth for a while!

  19. Geez, doomed is a bit harsh, things aint going smoothly at the moment no doubt and I reckon some tough, tough decisions neeed to be made by Gallop as far as relocation of teams but in the end the NRL will survive I just think it's glory days are behind it, what with the current player drain and the AFL spreading its product far and wide, the nbiggest problem the NRL have is the inability to bring any extra money in, the TV rights are locked up for anothe 3 or 4 years so they will have to sit tight until then and hopefully do a better job at the negotiating table than they did last time!!!

  20. Only those union wankers and the AFL f**s say it is doomed which coulded b further from the truth. Could u imaggine a world with out rugby league, it could never happen because there r 2 many men out there that r just 2 hard to play GAYFL

Oh yea and AFL is only played in 1 more state then NRL but if ya include NZ as a terriotry in a national rugby league comp then its 5 a piece

  21. nop
