  1. There are a lot of things that you get outside that you don't get on a treadmill -- fresh air, wind resistance, hills, maybe a light rain to cool you off and make you run further.....

Although a treadmill is better than nothing.

    .

  2. NOT AT ALL

  3. It is the same distance, but in my opinion it isn't the same run.  When you're on the treadmill, you are in a controlled environment.  If it's too hot, you can turn on the AC.  If you don't want to run up a hill, so be it.  The ground is always flat, and cushy.  Outside, there are many factors that you have no control over, such as wind, temperature, the terrain, etc.  Also, while you can stop whenever you want on both, if you are running on a trail, you still need to get back to where you started, whereas on a treadmill, you just stop.

  4. no, not at all.  Even if you run without wind resistance, you will still be moving through the air, which forces some resistance.  people say if you run at a very small incline, you will be simulating this.

This doesnt mean that you should run on a treadmill.  You get no terrain change, and, even if it scientists deny it, they are NO WHERE NEAR AS GOOD AS RUNNING.

Want some proof?  Look at the greatest distance runners.  Kenyans never run on treadmills, and neither did Jim Ryun, Steve Scott, Alan Webb, and I can bet Bernard Lagat and Ryan Hall dont either.  Trust me, just run outside.

  5. not necessarily if you are running this 2km outside you have remember that you could have a wind against and behind you making you run slower or faster. Also you will be running on a different surface.

  6. pretty much, although you miss out on hills and such on a treadmill.  Although it'll feel a lot better to run in the fresh air than in your clustered living room.
