Is running a business hard?

Im asking because my dad told me that if he dies tomorrow his international steal business is in my hands, meaning Im the heir. Im only 17 and the mere thought of being the head of something like that seems very intimidating and induces feelings of unworthiness. Ive never been much of a leader. On the other hand my dad does everything via his cell phone and hires people to do the rest..

  1. It's not easy running a business.  Why not spend time with your dad?  Learn from him.  Find out what's important and not so important.  He knows more about it than anyone else.  Be a good son, develop a relationship with him, listen and learn.  Be grateful that he's leaving a great business to you.  Good Luck!

  2. If you do something you enjoy it will not seem like difficult work.  At 17 you probably don't have a grip on what business you may or may not enjoy. I would get myself into a business school and learn all I can about business. Then if this company is left to you you will know better on what you should do. Keep it and run it, sell it and start another company, sell a part of it and stay on as a board member, to keep your fathers company running the way he would want. A lot to think about, but hopefully your father will be around for a long time, and time will tell all.

  3. Its gonna take a lot of responsibility.  Practice now, take advantage of what you are inheriting.
