Question:

Is running a yellow light an automatic fail during a driving test?

I took my driving test today and I came up to the intersection to turn right when the light was green. I stopped, looked both ways, and I'm pretty sure I was already in the intersection in the middle of my turn when the light turned yellow.

The instructor told me to go back to the parking lot and the test ended then. She told me that I did not look at the light as I was turning and that the light turned red before I cleared the intersection completely, but I'm sure I was already in the intersection before the light turned yellow.

Was that an automatic fail? Also, I thought you could turn right as long as there wasn't a "no turn on red" sign, and as long as you yielded. Was I wrong?

Please answer because now I'm scared that I won't ever pass my driving test.

  1. you can appeal it but as its your word against an examiners ?

  2. Sounds like you have reason to appeal a negative on your test, but it varies country to country, state to state.  You can probably request another examiner if you are uncomfortable with this one.

  3. "came up to the intersection to turn right when the light was green. I stopped, looked both ways"                                         You stopped to turn when the light was green?
