Question:

Is running an auto repair shop profitable?

We are thinking of running an auto repair shop on our own property (we live in the country about 4 miles from town)

We have a customer base already. Husband works for a local shop, but now has a new shop in our yard. Should he keep working for $14 an hour with no benefits or work out of his own garage?

Anyone have any experience in opening a shop like this?

  1. I hear what your saying, I myself am looking for a full time job, but even with the 4 degrees I have graduated with, i still cant get my foot in the door. I work on freinds cars for spending money and they all love my work! and All of them had asked me " why not start your own business, you have the degrees, what are you waiting for?"  I agree with his answer too, if you keep the charge rates affordable and do quality work, word gets around fast! home based businesses are the thing now so I think your worried about location?  It is one key to a successful business and with the gas prices thats another thing to considter. But i think with a little selfpromotion and lots of business cards I think you guys have nothing to worry about.  And as for my delema?  I'm starting to research and see how much its going to take to start up my own repair shop.

  2. i dont have experince that that stuff but i mean $14 is good I mean 10 hours and he has $140 so yeah and it is pretty hard to work on an auto repair shop because all of the supplies and then the advertising soi mean it all depends on experince with cars and the price
