  1. yes it's very different to normal running because running in place just brings your knee ups. you might as well do knee ups going forward if you were going to do that =/. however, in running, you push off the ground, using more muscles.

to build your calves. the best thing to do would be to do calf raises.

    - on stairs or off the sidewalk. put your front 1/2 of your foot on the edge of the stairs/sidewalk. your heel shouldn't be touching anything.

    - do 30 calf raises probably 5 times or so (bring up heel up above the stairs then below the stairs, up again, and so on

    - every week you can go up, so that you're challenging your calf muscles and building it. go up until you can do like 125 without stopping

  2. yes much less also treadmills not so good-  run up and down flights of stairs the best - or run up sand dunes calfs will look like calfs in a few weeks - moo !

  3. your better off going for a jog around the block, i dont think i could jog on the spot for long because i would get bored.

go out and get some stimuli, eat some sidewalk!

although if u want to tone the calf muscles there are specific exercises you can do to isolate them, one involves sitting down with your knees parralel to the ground straight out in front of you and put somthing heavy covering both of them and then raise onto the balls of your feet, repeat this for about 10 times and then do another couple of sets.

theres a good database of exercises with pictures here:

  4. do not listen to that rosie g girl...she is a r****d

  5. yes

when you run forward (normally) you are making use of your calf muscles and hip flexors as they push you forward, also your abs are used to help balance you and hold you upright (especially if you are on rough or uneven ground) on they spot mainly uses your thigh muscles, so for an overall more toned and more effective body normal running is best

  6. Totally different.  Running on the spot only uses minimal upward propulsion and no forward propulsion at all.

What do you mean you have no "space" to run???  There is a whole world out there!

PMSL at first poster saying running on the spot "gives you more mussles"...  I never realised running on the spot gave you seafood.

  7. The difference is that when you're running on the spot, you're not coming further.

I like the way Boris runs, because it looks very funny, and overtaking very closely (so he gets scared) with a bike more than once is fun (it's easy by going in circles).

    *rofl*

  8. Running on the spot will not give you much impact for building calf muscles why not cycle trying to use the biggest gear you can all the time no impact injuries just producing pure power via your legs which in turn produces muscle

    remember resistance produces muscle

assistance produces speed ie running down a hill running with the wind etc

If running on the spot is your thing build in some resistance use something like ankle weights or a weighted bag  etc

  9. yeh

running on the spot gets you more mussles

  10. well not reali but its betta than stayin watchin tv when its rainin

but joggin on the spot willnt help for in the future when u run cause ur legs r just goin up nd down not forwar down up
