Is running on the street with shock absorbing shoes still bad for your knees?

My knees are sore from running on the street, a hard surface, and i was wondering if wearing shock absorbing shoes can stop my knee pain. I went to academy today to get some running shoes and a store employee sugested shock aborbing shoes. He said that he runs and has the same brand. So I asked if he ever experienced knee pain while running ON THE STREET in these shock absorbing shoes and he said no. He said it would be safe to run on the street in these shoes. So I went ahead and bought the shoes. But I wander, do shock absorbing shoes really take the beating of your knees while running on the street, or was the man just trying to make the sale? Please tell me if it is safe for my knees to run on the street with shock absorbing shoes or not, and Thank you for your time!

  1. I always ran on a track, on sand, or on grass.  Never on a hard surface.

Never experienced knee, hip, or back pain.

I would have a track coach, either hi school or college analyze your running position.  Many runners I've observed, run improperly, either on the street or on a track.
