Question:

Is running or biking better?

i am prepping for summer running, I am captain of my x-c team, and I have bad knees, so i am biking two days a week and running the other two. which is better, or burns more calories? I live in a town where it's up halfway and down the other, too.

    Biking may hurt your knee more,

    particularly going up.

  4. biking and running take the same amount of energy, it depends on the distance of your run. biking is easier on your knees and can be more fun, it also builds leg muscle faster. Running is usually more tiring, but gets your heart going just a tiny bit faster than biking would. running would help you train better then biking of course. and im not sure about the calories. sorry =(

  5. Both are good workouts, it is always a good idea to do a mix of both and cross train.

  7. well, 1 mile of running = 2 miles of biking.

    also i think biking would hurt your knees.

Running burns more calories by far.  I would make sure you work out 5-6 days a week.  If your knees bug you, you should get into a pool.  Get an aquajogger belt and learn to run in the pool.  Low impact.  Great workout.  Closest thing to running and it's great for your knees.  I know a kid who spent an entire cc season in the pool and won state.  Good luck!
