  1. Its decent, but not great. Your performance goals should reflect what you wish to achieve by exercising. If you are out to gain some fitness and help lose/maintain weight then 3 miles in 21 minutes should be fine.

If, however, you are wishing to compete or to seriously enhance your cardiovascular fitness, then a time of 18-19 minutes may be more appropriate.

  2. That's ******* crazy. Yes, unreasonable.

  3. Yea, that is really good, i'm on the cross country team and for the 3 mile race course, we're training to get in the low twenties or below that for varsity.

  4. Completely depends on the details of the 14-year-old (height, weight, experience, gender, etc. etc.).

It'll be "reasonable" for some, and highly unreasonable for others.

I'd say it's on the faster side for that distance for the average 14-year-old (who wouldn't normally run competitively).

  5. That's 7 min miles, not that hard, especially if they've hit puberty. As long as you don't push him/her too hard. Boys are usually pretty fast at that age. Good luck

  6. 3 miles is approximately 4.8km.

My school used to have a competition every year for our own students and the distance for guys was 4.8km.

I was 14 in 2003 and my timing then was about 18 minutes.

i'm 18 now and  it's down by a two minutes or so.

    it's not unreasonable.

    it's above average.

and better training will lead to even more satisfactory timings.

    believe me.

    so ENJOY AND TRAIN HARDER!

or whoever is the 14 year old you're referring to.

    =D

  7. Healthy fitness zones

    One-mile run:

    Females, age 14: 8.5-11 minutes

    Males, age 14: 7-9.5 minutes

Found the above on-line.  Before starting any new excercise/ training schedule, it is important to consult a doctor; the doctor would be able to better answer your question.

  8. Wow......his/her little pistons were moving!!!! It is fast!

  9. Its good, im 14, I can run 3 miles in 20min 43sec. And 5miles in 33min 12sec.

  10. well the navy requires recruits to run a mile and a half in 12 min 15 seconds.. so i'd say it would be a good goal to set but may be hard to achieve that goal..

  11. Its a bit high to expect, but if you can run 1 mile in under 7 minutes, then by all means go for it.
