All science ( and remember science is only a word made by man ) is based on what man can percieve and verify within his own limited understanding.  If you accept that there are things around us that we, as yet, have no conception of, then it is easy to see that all science is as up to date as our own understanding and therefore subject to change, variation or even dis-proof as we go through the eons. If we are never going to be privy to the very basis of creation, then we are never going to be privy to total understanding of the physical world and how we percieve it in every way.   This is an excellent question by the way ......
