Is scratched Flatware/Silverware safe to use?

I have a nicely scratched spoon. I think it is stainless steel (it has 18/0 on the back). Is it still safe to use? I ask because I am unsure if there is a plating that covers a metal that is not as safe that is now exposed due to the scratches.

  1. scratches in metal ware sometimes represents its age(or the moment of your carelessness, no offense), so having a scratch on your stainless steel spoon is actually very safe if the scratches just came from scrubbing it clean. I don't know if scratches from other things are safe though.

  2. yes if you are realy conserned about it cover the craks with clear nail polish and then washit 3 times to sterilize it!
