  1. If it is something you are just doing "in the meantime', then maybe.  However, perhaps you went to a trade school, have some secretarial skills.  If you work for a company that is involved in something you have a passion for, it doesn't have to be boring. i.e., legal, medical, pharmaceutical, corporate, etc.

    Good luck.

  2. There are many types of secretarial jobs - some busy and demanding and others slow and boring where your secretarial skills rarely get used and you have no opportunities to develop new ones.

Working for an international hotel chain sounds like it should be interesting, but only you know if that's true or not for you.

The world is full of possibilities so tay opened.

    Good Luck!

  3. I think that it's up to the individual.  Some people see secretarial work as a job (in transition to another position) and some view it as a career.

For general career info:  http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search 'secretaries and administrative assistants' or such.

If wanting to get training, please opt for the more affordable school such as the county vo-tech school or community college.

  4. Depends on the department. I worked as a secretary for a CPA and a finance company and were they ever BORING. But I also worked as a secretary in a sales and marketing department and the challenges and fun never stopped! If you're good with high-stress, fast paced people, and you love to be creative and help plan events and print materials you might consider becoming a secretary in a sales or marketing department. It's more fun!

  5. YES!  But it doesn't have to be.  It really depends on your workload.  But its very routine.

  6. I have been working as an administrative assistant almost my entire career.  I'm 53 and truly enjoy what I do.  Sometimes it isn't the secretarial work but the type of company you work for.  Working for an international hotel chain, you could look at the catering dept., where you might get the opportunity to assist with big events, or at the front desk where you might meet a lot of interesting people.

I work for an architecture firm and have learned all sorts of skills on the job.   You don't necessarily need to go to a vocational school to learn, if you have computer skills, a good knowledge of MS Office, you can pick up the skills you might be lacking on the job.
