Is shamwow a scam?

i've been seeing those ads for shamwow, thinking about buying it. it would be great for the boat, but i wonder, is it really that much better than a regular old job lot shammy?

ps: im not sure if this is the right category, but it is the closest one i could find.

I've heard they don't soak up as much as advertised and also leave streaks/stains behind. Also I wouldn't be so quick to trust a product with the word "sham" in it's name, ha.

Bought one a couple of years ago when they first hit the market- they do soak up a tremendous amount of liquid- a good bit more then a shammy-but when it comes to wiping down something and getting the water spots off it, the shamwow does not do it- it cannot compare with the shammy in that respect.
