im trying to prove my sister wrong she says it's caused by BIRTH!

  1. It is not caused by birth.  It is caused by shaking a baby, hence the name.  When babies are born their skulls are not fully formed, and their neck cannot support their head.  Shaking a baby (or a child for that matter) will cause the head to bounce around (because the neck cannot support it) and this can cause brain damage or death.

    It seems like simple logic not to shake a baby, but it happens.  People get frustrated with babies (especially fussy ones) and loose their temper.  You are correct, and your sister is incorrect.


  2. If you are talking about "Shaken" no its caused by actually shaking a baby violently. It cannot be caused by bouncing them on your knee or things of that sort. Only violently shaking them. Your sister is wrong.
