  1. At some points in the past rope has used certain products that were derived from animals, mainly animal hair, sometimes out of silk. There were some ropes made of leather, but that sounds less like rope and more like strapping.

Modern ropes are RARELY natural products, the usual construction is nylon or other types of plastic. Some rope are made of Hemp, virtually no rope now is made out of animal hair, with the exclusion of wool. Wool ropes aren't often used and never in applications where it would get wet, such as mooring lines, stays etc. etc.

So, if your ship/boat was made in the last 30 years, you can be almost certain no animal product or labor was used in the production.

  2. well... really good rope is made from hemp.

    Hemp is vegan.

  3. The man made rope is vegan, as long as you don't mind it coming for dead dinosaurs (oil). I'd go for the hemp rope, it's great stuff and if you ever find yourself starving to death you can burn the stuff and die happy :-)

  4. Why, are you really that hungry?
