Well, I would consider shyness as immaturity.  You should know how to overcome this.  Confidence is very important, or you'll find yourself in big troubles.  ex. getting jobs, socializing, etc.

No, being unrealistic is. Shyness is because of a security issue and everybody has security issues, even if resolved ones.

An other thought is that the shy person has developed physically faster than emotionally; may be bad parenting or harassment from siblings or other family members retarded confidence and competency acquisition.

I am very shy... always have been, I am known as "the quiet girl"  I've tried to talk more and be more confident by I just can not break through it... I am still shy.  I am not immature or stupid and I was raised by great parents, I was never told I was stupid or anything to that matter, my mom was shy when she was young as well... I figured it was hereditary.

You will find that people that are shy often possess high levels of intelligence. It has nothing to do with immature in the sense of petulance, but may be classified as immature in social growth and development

No, not at all.  I am may be shy but I am not immature.  How do you make that connection?

Possibly,i was shy during childhood and the teen years,and then when i went into two different occupations,they MADE you come out of your shyness,never been shy since then.
