Is siruis radio still worth it if you are not using it in your car and don't travel much? I am in college and don't need to leave home that often. How has your experience been?

  1. yes

  2. I cannot listen to terrestrial radio anymore.  The commercials alone will make you puke after you have had XM or Sirius for any length of time.  I have had both but I am all about Sirius because of my close affiliation with the Good Ol' Grateful Dead on Channel 32.  If you don't spend allot of time in your sled then I would imagine an Ipod would be my 2nd Choice.  Sirius costs about as much as a pizza, to me its worth more than a pizza.

  3. Siruis makes something called the Stiletto 2. It's a siruis player and an mp3 player. It sounds like something you might be interested in if you don't travel very much.

They also make dock and play radios and radios for home use.

And if you hate commercials, I'd say it's definitely worth it.

  4. As much as I love my satellite radio, in your circumstances, I think I'd spend a little money and set up a Streaming Stereo with my computer and decent speakers (maybe wireless?).

I've posted this list before, but there's so many online stations (most without commercials) you could easily get along without satellite if money's tight.

    Good Luck!

  5. It's worth it. But if you don't use it much. Get yourself a plug and play radio or a portable radio. The Sportster 5 is the latest Sirius Color Screen Radio! Check them out at http://shop.sirius.com/

You can then hook it up in your car, use it at home with a system you have or get a audio system.

It's free to switch radios. Your car radio will no longer work after you make a switch to a new radio. Feel free to contact me with any questions.

  6. If you are not streaming it on the internet (which you get as part of the subscription) or are willing to buy another unit and transfer the subscription to one you can use while walking (and isn't as cracked up as they want you to beleive if you live outside a major city) then unless it's free it isn't worth paying for it.

That's one of the main reasons I haven't gotten it (as well as it would take both xm and sirius to merge to make enough stations worthwhile for me to pay)

Programming on sat radio is better than terrestrial but I've found terrestrial stations that will beat XM or Sirius stations but depends more on who programs them.

But take the advice on the way you want it.. But in college, unless it's background music on your computer, it isn't worth it... and I think some subscriptions will be cancelled soon if gas keeps going higher (as people won't need it as they aren't in their cars anymore)
