OK, my sister is getting married, and she appointed me sister of honor because her BFF is her maid of honor. so i was wondering if sister of honor was REALLY a position in the bridal party.

  1. Not really. My best friend got married and wanted the title of maid of honor so bad that she gave her "matron of honor." I know its a real title but I think its so lame to begin with. I'm in a wedding now where I am the 2nd maid of honor.

  2. I agree with #1. I haven't heard of a sister of honor. I am having both my sisters as my maids of honor. My friend had 2 maid of honors too: her sis and her best friend.

I'm having a maid of honro (my 20 year old sis)

matron of honor (22 year old married sis)

Junior Bridesmaid (my 10 year old half-sis)

Junior Bridesmaid (my 8 year old half-sis)

    Flower girl (my cousin)

    Ring bearer (my god-daughter)

    ...no sister of honor

  3. she just made it up so you won't feel bad about not being her moh, like me i don't have a sister does it mean that i do my brother my sister of honor?

  4. No, but in today's time people make up positions, and traditions that matter to them. You matter to her, so she made a position to suit that relationship. Congratulations =]

    Traditional attendants are as follows:

    Maid of Honor

    Matron of Honor (if married)

    Bridesmaid(s)

    Flowergirl(s)

    Ringbearer

    Best Man

    Groomsman/men

    Post-Traditional:

    Jr. Bridesmaid

    Jr. Groomsmen

    Man of Honor

    Best Woman

    etc.

My wedding party is rather large: Younger sister as Maid of Honor, best friend as Matron of Honor, and five bridesmaids.

  5. I've never heard of it! There is maid of honor and matron of honor and bridesmaids, but no sister of honor! She just made it up to make you feel better about the fact that she didn't pick you to be her maid of honor! Personally, I think she is making a big mistake! There is no way I would pick a friend over my sister to be in my wedding party!

  6. Sweetie, are you younger than 18?

If you are you can't be a legal witness for your sister....in other words you have to sign a document stating you witnessed the marriage, and the law states you must be a legal adult...age 18 or older. Since the maid of honor is usually one of the witnesses (the best man is the other) she probably selected the best friend because she can legally sign as witness.

So consider yourself a co-Maid of Honor...I think Sister of Honor sounds so much better, don't you? if your sister wants one, it's her wedding, right? So be one...good luck.

...and never mind the poster above me....just because you've never heard of a thing doesn;t mean it doesn't exist, it's like saying because I've never stood on London Bridge, it doesn;t exist (it does, I've been there, lol).

  7. No thats not a real position. There is a maid, matron, and guest of honour. But not sister.

It is sweet of her to try and make you feel better for not being chose. I hope you don't feel bad by the way.

The title is rather silly , why not change it something like, "relative of honour", or just have her call you a bridesmaid.

  8. While it's not a "traditional" title, if that's a role/position that your sister has created for her wedding, then yes, it's a real position.  The thing about weddings these days is that there's really no right or wrong in stuff like that...it's all up to bride and groom and what they want.
