Okay, I'm a 14yr old girl and I've snowboarded every now and then for the last 6 yrs and I'm not shabby at it. I'm actually pretty good! I want to learn skiiing, so I can do both and I who knows I might like skiing better. I skied when I was a child and I think I was good but I don't really remember. I skiied about 5yrs ago with some friends and I don't think I was that good but I was about 9 so I it was hard for me to learn again at that age. I also want to waterski when summer coms around. Will skiiing be hard to learn? Will I be able to do it? Remember I did it when i was little so I my body must remember how to some of it. Should I try the long regular skis, or the short little ones that are like skates? I also have played hockey and I can skate very well if that helps at all. Thanks in advance!!

  1. In my experience having good skating skills is a good start to learning to ski. Imagine going fast on skates with your feet together and turning from side to side. The sensation is much the same as sking.

  2. Skiing is easy, but I bet you will like snowboarding better! I learned to ski when I was like 8 and learned to snowboard when I was around 21 or so. I love snowboarding so much, that I will probably never ski again. Good luck

  3. You should have no problem, if you have good balance.  Skiing is all in weight shifting.  My main suggestion would be to start slow and don't let anyone talk you into going on the large hills right away.  I've seen more people hurt that way.

As to skis, I would suggest the modern parabolic skis.  These are shorter than the old long skis, but are still longer than the "shorties".  Those are useless for really learning how to carve instead of sliding throught the turns.  Skis are sized based on your height and weight.  Not knowing either, I couldn't pick one for you, but your local ski shop can.

    Have fun and good luck!

  4. Yep, I learned when I was 5 so thats different, but my friends learned just last year and they only had to take like 3 classes before they were good enough to go on chairlifts and stuff like that.  Good luck!

  5. Once you learn to ski, (which is actually relatively easy if you have a good sense of balance which you do as you board), it is like riding a bike you will never forget how to do it again once you are able to do it.

  6. its pretty easy. especially since you have been snow boarding.

  7. yes pretty easy to take up again. u should go for the shorter skis since they are esier to turn but not the super small skies but between ur nose and chin. if u r not confident at all then try a half day lesson u should pick it rite back up.

  8. The learning curve for skiing and boarding are so much different.

You can learn to be a good snowboarder much faster than you can learn to become a good skier. That said, you can become a really good skier faster than you can become a really good snowboarder.

Skiing is harder at the beginning but your skill level advances much more quickly than a boarder

Since you've already took the baby steps at learning to ski when you were a kid I'd bet you will be a pretty good skier in no time afterall the hardest part of skiing is your 1st time down the hill

Avoid the skiskates they are just a diversion when you're bored of skiing for the day and will do nothing to help you learn to ski with any decent technique
