Question:

Is sleeping with headphones/earphones on bad?

I fall asleep to my iPod at times, and my friend told me it's bad for my ears. I turn it to the lowest possible volume and lock it so I don't knock it any higher. Sometimes I have it on my regular music (and accidently fall asleep), but most of the time I have it on jazz/hip hop instrumentals. She still says it's bad for my ears and stuff, is it really? o.o;; I also have it turned off within an hour or 30 mins (sleep timer! :D)

  1. f it is not on all night than that is not terrible as long as it is on low.  It would be better to have a radio or CD player without headphones.

  2. I can't see how this could be bad for you.  As long as the volume is not high it's really no different to sleeping with the radio on.

Only problem I've found sleeping with headphones is that they can wrap around you neck as you toss and turn in your sleep.

  3. No, if it's on the lowerst volume than it hsouldn't be a problem. even listening to your music at 90db's, iunno around 75% on ipod, there's only a risk of damaging your ears arfter 8-9 hours of listening straight. And considering your listening to it on the lowest volume, it shouldn't even damage your ears at all, no matter how long you listen to it for.

    Hope this has helped.

  4. If it's not uncomfortable to sleep on, I don't see that it is a problem, especially since you have the music very low.  The sleep timer is a good idea, though.

I personally never wear earbuds or headphones to bed because I turn on my side and it is very uncomfortable.

  5. yeaaa...that hurts after a while...its not worth it...your not even really listing to it when your falling  a sleep

  6. I have a habit for listening to my mp3 before I go to bed. Now I don't go to sleep because I feel like listening to music before I can sleep.

  7. not really, even though it's not really necessary, more useful for walking in neighborhoods that are cold for health purposes, or maybe waiting at bus stops in the cold, but as far as listening to music, maybe move to a peaceful neighborhood and then play music low in your room.

  8. ya man that's perfectly fine i do it as well as long as its not loud your good to go. I never had a problem yet and its 100 percent safe with low volume. but the only problem is you might get a song stuck in your head for like 2 days straight lol  take care and good luck

  9. the only thing bad about it would be if the cord got wrapped around your neck when you were sleeping and strangled you. it won't hurt your ears

  10. Think about how close the ear buds are to your ear drums. Luckily you have that time lock on, but unless your blasting your ipod all the time you wont notice any SHORT TERM hearing loss.

I think most of the current generation will need hearing aids in the long term

  11. It Is Bad

It isn't good for your ears at all, where possible you should always listen to your music or whatever without earphones.

You will notice one thing here..... Most of the young ones will go, "Don't be stupid of course it is fine !!!" and then you will get most of the older ones with a little more experience go "Trust me don't do it because it does do damage, I Know !!!".

I'm 35 and damaged my ears with earphones and I've told my teen don't do it, you will regret it..... He has regretted it and he is only about to turn 16. For the last 4 years he has continued to ignore me, now he is saying that he wish he had listened because it may ruin his chances with getting in the police his hearing is so bad now.

Not only is it no good for your ears but as a Mum I think of things like getting it caught around your neck in the night.

I know that is a little paranoid but hey once a mum always a mum. :-)

  12. Not at all.  I wouldn't do it all the time, but the occasional leaving in of ear buds shouldn't be that big a deal.

  13. I do it a lot. I just doze off, but then when I wake up later I turn them off.  So I hope not!!

  14. Omg you're JUST like me!

I sleep with my I-Pod on too!! :)

But it's a really bad habit though. :(

Everytime I am on the phone I can never hear anything. It's wither bad service or WAX!!

    lol

But I can't really whisper either because I am so loud. So if that answers your question.

  15. I do not think so ! ? ! .,. see.,. When I was ... well back in the mid 1980's I've went to sleep PLENTY of times with head phones on !! mostly while I might be re',doing, finishing, double checking etc. some home work !! & has went to sleep with them on!! This  would mostly be after the hours I should've been asleep !! So I did'nt sleep with them on !!  & they certainly would'nt be that loud late at night !! because I'm certain that atleast my Mother would've heard sOmEtHiNg !! & will have made cut the music off & get some sleep !! But having them on / blasting music COULD do some serious damage to hearing !!g/l~!!.,.rRr.,.

  16. Very bad. You could roll over and push the earbud deep into the ear causing a painful infection. Ear aches are not fun. They're almost as bad as a tooth ache.

  17. it is not very bad, it wont affect your hearing drums or anything else, but you know, there will be some bacterias in our ears and when the ear is closed with something, the activity of the bacteria will be more and it would cause some infection, may be like itching inside ears etc.. I dont say it will be a major bad effect as long as u like itching your ears .. :D

  18. i dont see why not. unless you have that rare disease where your ears bleed when ever you listen to music really low

  19. It's not bad o_O as long as it's not high.

  20. no its not

  21. its only bad its very loud.. but other wise it wont do much damage..

but i would just stop wearing it to sleep...

but its cool.. i do it all the time and have perfect hearing... just not so loud.. or esle it will cause hearing lose

  22. It screws up your ears so bad.I do that alot and my ears always hurt.and you can end up chocking yourself with the cord when you sleep.

  23. with the sleep timer on, it should not be bad, i do the same thing because my music helps me fall asleep.  I've never had any problems with hearing, but then again i'm no doctor so i don't know.

  24. probably kinda bad...but i do it.... i usually have it sorta loud tho....

  25. I wouldn't think it would be bad as long as you weren't listening to any Hardcore metal or anything :)

Note: Especially watch your volume control, I'm sure that listening to it full blast isn't very good for you.

  26. i dont think its a bad thing because i do the same thing but as long as it is on very low volume because high volume can cause damage to ur ear and eventually u can potentially loose ur hearing because everyone has little hairs called cilia in the inner ear which circulates sounds to the brain and if that damaged u can possibilty loose ur hearing or have permanent tinnitus

  27. my friend does it all the time, his ears are perfect. so im sure nothings wrong with that!

  28. if it turns off within an hour i would not suspect so, i mean, there might be a slight...slight earwax problem ish thing possibly ish, but if it puts you to bed, i say it's worth it i mean, it's not like you're head is becoming airtight

  29. Yes... It has the potential to cause severe ear damage....and don't forget all those subliminal messages that you absorb while asleep.

  30. if its not loud i do it all the time thats the only way i fall asleep

  31. I sometimes fall asleep with them on and I have a bad neck in the morning. I don't think its a good idea.
