*One of the nail polish I am using says, "Warning using this product will expose you to chemicals known to the state of California to cause birth defects other reproductive harm."

Should I stop using this nail polish?

Is it better to use nail polish that says it is toluene & formaldehyde free? What ingredients are safe and what ingredients are not?

  1. Yes.   All fumes from nail polish, polish remover, paint, etc, etc, etc IS Toxic.     Do not directly sniff them, as that can cause your respiratory system to become depressed which can lead to hypoxia, brain damage, or even death.

Now......it is SAFE to use fingernail polish if you use it in a well ventilated area (a room with a fan going and a window open would be ventilated.....even better is outside.)

If you are concerned about it at all, then discontinue use.  Better to be safe than sorry.

  2. Looney Lovegoo has it right; the villain is acetone, aka nail polish remover, which is also the solvent in polish.

Also avoid lacquer thinner; it will really gitcha.

  3. the idea of it is to paint your nails with it, not sniff it. you will be fine, i think what they mean is if you try and get high off it then it will have effects, but i dont think they would sell something like nail polish that stops you having children

  4. Yeah. It is bad to smell nail polish (Like to inhale forcefully on and on.) And you can still use the nail polish. Just because it says something like "...birth defects" on it doesn't mean you have to stop using it. :) It's not going to kill you on the first time you open the bottle open lol.

It is also bad to smell Nail Polish Remover fumes. Those are really bad for your mind, lol.
