  1. check with nypd and/or the dmv.  they would know.

  2. The answer is no. I'm sure that if you checked the packaging of the tail light lenses in the store before you purchase them, there will be a very small disclaimer statement on the packaging.

It will probably read something like this: "This is a noveltyy item and is not meant for public highway use. Check with local authorities before installing." Or something to that effect.

Also, if the lenses distort the color of either your brake lights, tail lights, rear turn signals, or rear hazard lights, then the answer is a definite no. All parts on a motor vehicle, especially pertaining to lights have to be approved by the DMV Commissioner. The penalty is a $30 fine + $30 surcharge.

Furthermore, this is not a correctable violation because it's an after-market item that was added to the vehicle. Also, you can get 1 summons per violation, which means you could get 2 (1 for each side) if you ran into the wrong type of officer or if your attitude wasn't very nice.

  3. um probably not

  4. The best thing to do is check with the DMV or the local Inspection station for the rules.

  5. They are illegal in most states If they reduce the intensity of the lights.

It would best just to call the (DMV) and ask before you buy them or before you get a ticket.
